It is written that to be a friend of the world means to be an enemy of God. Have you ever wondered why we cannot have both? It is because the world demands polygamy of heart and our Savior demands monogamy. A man cannot, at one time, be both a polygamist and a monogamist. Sadly, the mark of much of the church today is this very thing. On the one hand we give ourselves to a multitude of worldly passions and on the other we maintain that we belong only to Christ.
The world doesn’t mind if it shares you but Christ does. The world is content with a divided heart but Christ isn’t. Like a groom on the wedding day he expects his bride to give herself completely over to him. The marriage bed of Christ is made for only two. We must divorce ourselves from the world or God will divorce himself from us.
